John Bever CFP ®
As a Financial Advisor, John Bever works with individuals, families and business owners helping them achieve greater financial independence and have a bigger impact on the people and causes they are most passionate about. Since 1983, he has helped his clients navigate the financial planning ocean in both calm and stormy seas. You can count on him and the team at Phase 3 to chart the course to your destination, as they have designed hundreds of financial plans, identifying tax savings, pointing out design flaws in their financial ships and managing the ships through choppy waters and storms towards their ports of call.
John lives in Buffalo Grove, IL with his wife Pam and enjoys the outdoors, home remodeling, volunteering at his church, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoys educating others on financial and economic issues.

John says, “Your financial plan will only be as successful as the goals it is designed to support. When you have a clear understanding of what you want to accomplish in your life your financial plan should be a natural extension of that life plan. I have a passion to help you create a financial plan that is in harmony with your life’s purpose. Financial independence is not merely measured in dollars, but in how fully it allows you to accomplish your life’s mission. That defines retiring abundantly.”
A Passion for The Profession
John began his career in the financial services industry in 1983. In 1984 his passion for financial planning and his desire to provide the best possible service to his clients led him to co-found Phase 3 Advisory Services, Ltd. Over the years, hundreds of individuals, families, and small businesses have sought John’s experience and practical advice. His clients appreciate his ability to translate complex economic principles and global trends into practical strategies and advice.
A Commitment to Learning
John enjoys educating others on financial and economic issues. He attended Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, IL, majoring in Communications. He received his B.S. in Organizational Communications with additional studies in Business and Personal Finance from Southern Illinois University in 1982. John continued his education through the College for Financial Planning, Denver, CO where in 1987, he completed his studies and to become a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional. In addition to fulfilling continuing education requirements, he also regularly attends industry conferences and workshops in order to deepen his knowledge and understanding of market and industry trends and legislative changes.
Striving for Balance
John enjoys many interests outside of work including health and fitness, reading, travel and home remodeling. “Home remodeling is my therapy. I’m fascinated by the finished product of skilled craftsmen and it keeps me humble,” says John. He believes that these interests help him maintain perspective. John believes, “Life isn’t about money, it’s about achieving our purpose.”
A Life of Dedication
Those who are familiar with John know that he has three main priorities in life: his faith, his family, and his firm. Though he owns and operates a successful financial planning firm, John’s greatest pleasures in life are spending time with his family and living out his faith. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Pam, their two daughters, Ashley and Julia, and grandchildren. Highlights with his daughters have been mission trips to work with orphanages in South Africa, and Mexico.
