Retire Wiser
Retire Wiser – Having enough to do what you love in retirement and not run out of money.
The National Retirement Risk Index in 2013 showed that over half of US households are at risk of running out of money in retirement. (Keith Miller, David Madland, Christian E. Weller. “The Reality of the Retirement Crisis.” Center for American Progress. January 16, 2015.)
What is the abundance you wish to have in retirement? If you answered “Money” then ask yourself, why. What do you want out of your retirement years? What is it you want your money to do for you? Some answers we’ve heard are:
“I want to be able to travel and see my grandchildren.”
“I want to be able to continue my level of charitable giving.”
“I want to own a summer home and a winter home and be able to travel between the two.”
“I want to take a trip to Europe.”
“I want to help my grandchildren with their college education costs.”
“I want don’t want to be a burden to my children financially should I require ongoing care.”
Several pitfalls can block the path to abundance—real pitfalls like running out of money, an increasing tax burden, children’s college expenses, or rising health care costs. To retire wiser means more than having enough money to meet your costs—it means you have the time, health, and resources to do what means most to you…to pursue your purpose. Perhaps it’s spending more time with family or to travel. Or it may be volunteering or practicing generosity.
To get there you need to answer several questions. Questions we will explore at your Discovery Meeting. This is our first meeting and the cost to you is zero. The purpose is to discover how close you are to achieving your abundant retirement. Give it a try and see if it works for you. If not, you haven’t loss anything, and you’ll probably be a little more organized and have a clearer picture of your goals.
